Civil Rules Transition Guide released; CLEBC’s line-up to educate lawyers on the new Supreme Court Civil Rules and Supreme Court Family Rules underway CLEBC Staff/February 24, 2010 The Civil Rules Transition Guide is now available for sale. The book includes an introduction by Donald Brenner, QC, the complete text of the Supreme Court Civil Rules with annotations written by leading practitioner Craig Dennis, and Tables of Concordance. It is the perfect portable tool to take along to conferences, discoveries, and court while learning to practice under the new Supreme Court Civil Rules scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2010. It is only the first step of many in CLEBC’s line-up of offerings aimed at helping the legal profession be ready when the new rules take effect. Litigators in the Lower Mainland should mark their calendars for April 26 and 27, 2010, when CLEBC will present “The New Supreme Court Civil Rules”, a comprehensive two-day program designed to get litigation counsel prepared to practice under the new regime. For those in other areas of the province, CLEBC will bring this timely program to you: three “Road Shows” will come to Victoria—May 13 and 14; Kelowna—May 20 and 21; and Prince George—June 3 and 4. Co-chairs Master William McCallum and Mr. Justice Malcolm Macaulay are planning a must-attend program that will include conferences, case planning, trial management, judicial settlement, discovery (oral and documentary), expert evidence, expedited litigation, and costs. On April 16, 2010, family lawyers will want to attend CLEBC’s “Family Law: The New Supreme Court Rules”. This program will also be brought as a “Road Show” to Kelowna—April 19; and Victoria—April 22. Learn what will change and what will remain the same in this full-day course co-chaired by Rules Committee members Mr. Justice Brian Joyce and Dinyar Marzban, QC. Topics will include the new forms, the new process for court applications, experts, and discovery. On May 7, support staff in civil law practices can get up to speed on the new civil rules at “Civil Rules for LSS”. Support staff for family lawyers can learn all about how the new rules will affect their work and that of their lawyers at “Family Law: The New Supreme Court Rules for Legal Support Staff” in Vancouver on May 12. CLE-TV offers online, lunchtime previews of the new Rules. Two video-based CLE-TV webcasts are in the works: Family lawyers can tune in on March 16, 2010 from 12 pm to 1 pm for a discussion of the new Supreme Court Family Rules presented by Mr. Justice Brian M. Joyce and Dinyar Marzban, QC. Mr. Justice Malcolm Macaulay and Donald Brenner, QC will present the new Supreme Court Civil Rules from 12 to 1 pm on March 30, 2010.
