BC Provincial Court Practice Direction: Victoria-South Vancouver Island District Criminal Caseflow Management Rules (“CCFM”): Arraignment and Trial Confirmation Hearings

CLEBC Staff/November 18, 2009

A new Practice Direction to take effect December 1, 2009 rescinds and replaces the portion of a June 18, 2007 Practice Direction pertaining to Arraignment and Trial Confirmation Hearings under the CCFM.

The objective of the directive is to help counsel meet the goals of criminal process reform initiatives in operation in the Victoria courthouse since June 2007, while more effectively conducting arraignment and trial confirmation hearings without necessitating an in-person court appearance.

The Practice Direction sets out detailed instructions for conducting arraignment and trial confirmation hearings before Judicial Case Managers as well as by email. The full text of the Practice Direction is available online.
