This course will provide practitioners with practical strategies and a tool kit for preparing applications for foreign workers. Starting with the Temporary Foreign Worker Overhaul on June 21, 2014, we have experienced a magnitude of change unseen since the introduction of IRPA in 2002. In this course, we will examine these changes as they relate to properly advising corporate clients to ensure their foreign workers are authorized to work in Canada. We will focus on broad scenarios involving work permit exemption, the ever challenging LMIA, IMP work permits, and the increasingly important topic of employer compliance. We will emphasize preparation of applications and the logistics of filing applications. Continuing the theme of prior editions of this course, we will examine the ethical and practice management issues arising in relation to such topics.
After taking this course you will...
- be able to advise your clients on how to prepare applications for foreign workers
- have up-to-date information on work permits, the LMIA, and IMP work permits
- understand the topic of employer compliance
- be able to identify ethical and practice management issues in this practice area
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (a minimum of 1 hour will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management).
