Supreme Court confirms jurisdiction in defamation action against union (case digest)

In TimberWest Forest Corp. v. United Steel Workers Union, 2008 BCSC 388, the B.C. Supreme Court finds that it has jurisdiction simpliciter and is the forum conveniens for a dispute over alleged defamatory statements made in B.C. and Utah. The court concludes that the Labour Relations Board does not have jurisdiction as the acts at issue fall outside the normal scope of employer-employee relations.
