Medicine that lawyers will want to take!
Litigation counsel who regularly handle medical reports and medical experts need to have more than a passing knowledge of medical matters. Designed with personal injury counsel in mind, this course will examine several important areas of medicine with an emphasis on issues in the pediatric medical context. The course will assist counsel to better understand the broader context of all medico-legal matters, including admission of medical evidence at trial, and strengthen counsel’s ability to deal with doctors whether in the context of treatment, marshaling a medical opinion, or challenging a medical opinion. This fundamentals level course is for personal injury counsel who want a comprehensive review of facets of medical information most likely to arise in litigation. Experienced counsel who seek a general overview of medico-legal matters will also find this course valuable.

- current issues with technology and methods for diagnosis of injuries
- how to effectively assess and present medical evidence
- management of infant settlements
- professionalism and practice pitfalls engendered by medical issues in litigation
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (a minimum of 1.5 hours will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
