New WESA terms and concepts will impact your family practice—be prepared!
The world of will and estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation in British Columbia changed significantly on March 31, 2014 with the coming into force of the Wills, Estates and Succession Act and the new Rule 25 of the Supreme Court Civil Rules. The new legislation, which replaces the Estate Administration Act, Wills Act, and Wills Variation Act among others, means sweeping change that impacts not only estate practitioners but also family lawyers, often in surprising ways. In this course, family lawyers and estate lawyers will join together to present an overview of these changes from the perspective of what a family law lawyer needs to know. Pairings of experienced family and estate lawyers will bring you up to date on notable topics, including separation, children, legal proceedings, wills/beneficiary designations/support, incapacity, and fraudulent conveyances.

After this course you will...

  • be up-to-date on the new terms and concepts under WESA
  • understand how WESA impacts on your family practice
  • identify ways that your practice may need to change
