The nexus between contract law and tort law is not straightforward and presents a potential minefield for unwary counsel. Tort law and contract law present markedly different conceptual frameworks both with respect to duties and the calculation of damages. These differences have critical implications for counsel working with fact patterns which fall in the intersection of these two frameworks.
CLEBC is pleased to welcome back Professor Joost Blom, QC on a program that will quickly bring practitioners up to speed with a framework of analysis for tackling a wide range of tort-contract problems. This advanced workshop course will feature specially designed problems that will clarify the critical concepts and principles underpinning this area of the law. More importantly, you will have an opportunity to engage in high level discussion and analysis under the tutelage of one of Canada’s leading contract-tort scholars.
There is no sitting back with this course—you will learn by doing. You will prepare by reviewing in advance, materials which will provide you with an analytical framework for tackling contract–tort problems. Next, you will have an opportunity to test your understanding of concepts and principles as you work through a series of specially designed problems. On course day, Professor Blom will lead the class through the analysis as you have an opportunity to reflect, exchange ideas, and deepen your understanding of the law.
This course promises to challenge even the most senior litigation counsel. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to participate in a dynamic high level learning experience.
At this course you will learn how to...
- expand your knowledge of contract law and tort law
- increase your understanding of the nexus between contract and tort
- sharpen your tools of analysis for contract/tort issues
