About the Course Chairs
Tracey M. Cohen is a well-known trial and appellate lawyer and a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group of Fasken Martineau. She has more than two decades of experience in negotiation, litigation, and arbitration in complex commercial disputes, including class actions. Tracey specializes in the defence of financial institutions, companies, directors, officers, and professionals, in matters involving contractual and shareholder disputes, corporate governance, allegations of negligence, fraud, and breaches of fiduciary duty and trust, as well as civil and regulatory securities matters. Tracey is a frequent author and speaker on topics relating to arbitration, litigation, and appellate issues. Prior to joining Fasken Martineau in 1992, Tracey clerked for the BC Court of Appeal. She received her LLB from the University of BC, and her BA from the University of Toronto. Mary T. Ainslie, QC graduated with a BA from the University of Toronto in 1987 and from UBC’s Faculty of Law in 1991. After graduation she clerked for a year with the BC Supreme Court and has been a criminal lawyer ever since, working first as a defence lawyer at Smart & Williams and since 1995 as a Crown Counsel. Mary acted as trial counsel in Provincial, Youth, and Supreme Court before joining the office of Criminal Appeals and Special Prosecutions in 1998 where she acts as appellate counsel in both the BC Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. In December 2013 she was appointed Queen’s Counsel. Over the last two decades, Mary has been teaching criminal law courses as an Adjunct Professor with UBC’s Faculty of Law, and is a regular presenter at CLEBC courses, and CBABC and Crown Conferences. She is the co-editor of CLEBC’s Introducing Evidence at Trial: A British Columbia Handbook.
