Have you noticed more people engaging in “high conflict” behaviour these days? Someone yelling at a receptionist? An employee sending nasty emails to co-workers? Another professional who seems to get into conflict with other people all the time and never takes responsibility for his/her actions? A client who files multiple complaints without merit, against a professional over a miscommunication?
This behaviour is considered “high conflict” because it increases conflict instead of reducing or resolving it. Most people with these types of extreme behaviours have a repeated pattern of high-conflict behaviour—it’s part of who they are. They didn’t just make a mistake or act out of the blue—they have done this before and will do it again.
This one-day workshop is designed to help lawyers and other legal professionals learn the theory of high conflict behaviour and the necessary skills and techniques to manage high conflict disputes. Participants will draw from their own experience and already developed skills, and as a result gain insight and confidence when dealing with high conflict behaviour.
At this course you will learn...
- brain science related to conflict
- information about High Conflict Personality (HCP) patterns
- techniques to assist HCPs in problem-solving
- strategies for managing our own anxiety when dealing with HCPs
- approaches to coach HCPs in taking responsibility for resolving their own dispute
- participants will learn to use the following skills:
- connecting skills—use empathy, attention, and respect to connect and build an effective working relationship with HCPs
- assertion skills—use a structured approach for assertion and responding to misinformation with HCPs and coach HCPs to use this method also
