Who should attend: All those wishing to enhance their mediation skills and understanding; this course is essential for new family mediators.

Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced

The third course in CLEBC's new Family Law Mediation curriculum, this course will give you a better understanding of family dynamics and power in mediation. You will also learn about process design options and have the opportunity to enhance your interview skills through role play and exercises. Finally, you will hear about how to document and record sessions, agreements, and memorandums of understanding. Gain a better understanding of the nature and source of conflict in the context of family dispute resolution and the role and objectives of a mediator. For those wishing to become Family Law Mediators under the Family Law Act, this is the third of four courses in our 80 hour curriculum.

This course will count for 24 hours of mediation training and will include exercises and role plays in mediation settings.

Prerequisites: Introduction to Family Dispute Resolution or equivalent training, AND Family Law Mediation Fundamentals or equivalent training.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 24 hours (a minimum of 2 hours will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
