Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6.5 hours for Damages in Personal Injury and 6 hours for Defending Personal Injury for a total of 12.5 hours (a minimum of 1 hour in each course will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management).
1. Damages in Personal Injury 2016

Who should attend: All litigators who handle files with a personal injury (direct or resulting) loss component.
Learning level: Fundamental/Intermediate
Along with causation and liability, the assessment of damages or quantum is one of the central aspects of all personal injury files. This course is a comprehensive review of the essential elements of personal injury files damage assessment—from what must be reviewed, to how medical and accounting evidence is to be marshalled to arrive at that critical dollar value which constitutes the quantum assessment of an injury.

2. Defending Personal Injury 2016

Who should attend: Personal injury litigators from both the plaintiff and defence bars.
Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced
Last run in 2012, this popular course is a review of important topics currently shaping personal injury practice. The program will examine a broad spectrum of personal injury practice related issues including developments in the law, the rules of court, medical issues, advocacy skills, expert evidence, professionalism, and law practice management. The overall emphasis of the program is on practical information, matters that are relevant to the “cut and thrust” of everyday PI practice. This course is about what every defence counsel needs to know and what every plaintiff counsel should know.
