Who should attend: Recent graduates of paralegal training programs and new legal administrative assistants; the program will also benefit junior paralegals who are currently employed and wish to enhance their basic legal office skills.

As a paralegal new to the profession, you have successfully completed your education. How do you effectively transition into the workplace if you have little or no law office experience? Basic Legal Office Skills is the first program in the five-part Paralegal Core Competency Series, intended to provide a foundation for a successful transition into the workplace.
Basic Legal Office Skills is designed for paralegals who have completed their paralegal education and are entering the workplace. The course could also benefit junior paralegals currently employed who wish to enhance their basic legal office skills, as well as legal administrative assistants in entry level positions. You will learn the importance of how to conduct yourself in a law firm environment, including the importance of confidentiality, communication tips, tracking and meeting deadlines, the significance of attention to detail and tips on how to improve it, effective note taking techniques, communication with colleagues, how to impress your employer, and other practice tips to make you successful in your position.

Rebroadcasts: All five courses in the series will be rebroadcast on Wednesday, July 27 during the "CLE Summer Series". Those who register for the series may attend any or all of the rebroadcasts for FREE, giving you two opportunities to attend each course. Please contact Customer Service to confirm your spot.
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 1.5 hours
This course will NOT involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management. NOTE: If you attend both the original live course AND the rebroadcast, you may claim credit for ONLY ONE of them.
