Psychiatric and neuropsychological injuries can give rise to some of the most complex and challenging expert evidence that can arise in civil litigation. Such injuries occur in a wide range of circumstances: from motor vehicle and other accidents to assaults, toxic work environments, and medical malpractice. Claims for psychological and psychiatric injury routinely give rise to complex issues of proof: issues relating to legal and scientific causation, foreseeability, prognosis, and diagnosis. This comprehensive program is designed to bring you quickly up to speed on psychiatric and neuropsychological evidence and the theoretical and practical issues surrounding its presentation in civil claims.
At this course you will learn:
- about the differences between mental health professionals: psychiatrists, psychologists, and neuropsychologists
- of mental disorders that commonly arise in litigation
- the complex nexus between psychological and psychiatric assessment and legal doctrine
- what a neuropsychological assessment is and what it can offer
- about the state of appellate review of expert medical evidence
- what neurological assessment can bring to a traumatic brain injury case
- about the current state of chronic pain: assessment and treatment
- how to effectively organize, prepare, and present your psychiatric and neuropsychological evidence at trial
