(Original date: Wednesday, June 7, 2017)
Who should attend: Legal counsel to post-secondary institutions (who provide labour and employment, administrative law, privacy, litigation, and other advice), senior administrators at post-secondary institutions, lawyers conducting investigations into allegations of sexual violence and preparing investigation reports for institutions, lawyers representing respondents, criminal defense bar.
Learning level: All levels
In May 2016, BC passed the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, which requires public post-secondary institutions to adopt policies and procedures to address sexual misconduct. This legislation and the resulting policies will have a far-reaching impact on how post-secondary institutions respond to allegations of sexual misconduct on their campuses.
Whether you are legal counsel to post-secondary institutions (giving labour and employment, administrative law, privacy, litigation, or other advice) or a senior administrator at a post-secondary institution, this course will introduce you to the complex legal issues raised by this legislation and the resultant policies. Lawyers who are interested in conducting investigations into allegations of sexual violence and preparing investigation reports for institutions and lawyers who represent respondents and members of the criminal defense bar are invited to attend to learn about the context for working in this emerging area.
This comprehensive course will quickly bring you up to speed on both the legal issues and practical considerations surrounding institutional responses to sexual violence on campuses.
