Who should attend: Lawyers and legal staff looking for smarter tech solutions to everyday law office issues.
Learning level: All levels
This series of three 2-hour programs will equip you with the knowledge you need to harness the technology you have in your law office in order to work more efficiently.
Mastering Microsoft Word in a Law Office
9:00 am – 11:00 am
If you're tired of wrestling with Word's formatting every time you have to draft something more complex than a letter, this is your class. Microsoft Word classes designed for the general public don't address the issues lawyers face when drafting legal instruments. By contrast, this class is designed by lawyers, for lawyers. We'll cover legal drafting issues like automatic paragraph numbering, complex page numbering schemes, tables of contents, footnotes, and paragraph number cross-referencing. This class assumes basic familiarity with Word.
A Lawyer's Guide to PDFs
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
You have probably noticed that PDF files are everywhere and have become the file format of choice when trading documents with other lawyers and with clients. Many court documents and government forms must be filed as PDFs. We'll cover the basics and legal-specific features of Adobe Acrobat, such as metadata removal, redaction, PDF packages, routing PDFs for comments/feedback, and more. Learn how to apply document security, scan to PDF, and archive your e-mail.
iPad for Legal Professionals: iLawyering with an iPad
2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Despite the doubters, the iPad has arrived and has ushered in a new way for lawyers to manage, and to carry information. Whether you are new to the iPad phenomena, a skeptic, or an experienced user, this course will debunk the myth that an iPad is just a toy and has no business being used by serious professionals. Learn which iPad accessories are truly valuable, how to set up mail/calendar, how to create folders, how to add/sync files, the best way to view documents, uses for conducting legal research, what's available for trial presentation, the best legal specific applications, and more much. Of course along the way, we'll get you up to speed on all the fun ways to use your iPad too!
