About the Course Chairs 
Joseph J. Arvay, Q.C holds law degrees from the University of Western Ontario Law School and Harvard Law School. He is called to the Bars of both British Columbia and the Yukon. Mr. Arvay has a busy civil litigation practice but with an emphasis on constitutional and administrative law matters including many aboriginal rights cases. Mr. Arvay has also been counsel on medical malpractice cases, class actions, commercial litigation, intellectual property, and defamation cases.

The Honourable Madam Justice Karen A. Horsman was recently appointed as a justice of the BC Supreme Court.  Formerly, Justice Horsman was legal counsel in the constitutional and administrative law group with the Ministry of Attorney General in Vancouver.  She graduated from UBC in 1993, then worked as a judicial law clerk at the BC Supreme Court before completing her articles with the Ministry of Attorney General.  Justice Horsman worked as a litigator with the Ministry for a number of years, and appeared on behalf of the Province at all levels of court in British Columbia, and the Supreme Court of Canada.  Justice Horsman is a co-editor and contributing author to the text book Government Liability: Law and Practice, and for a number of years she has also been an adjunct professor at the UBC Faculty of Law.
