About the course chairs
BARBARA J. NELSON, QC is well known to anyone practicing family law in the province. She was the 1986 President of the CBA, Provincial Branch after serving many years on the Provincial Council and the Executive. Barbara served as the family law practitioner on the Justice Reform Committee of British Columbia and co-chaired a committee on justice reform for the National Canadian Bar Association. A frequent panelist and writer on family law issues for CLEBC and
other organizations, she has been involved with the Family Law Conference since its inception in 1995. Barbara was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1987, and was honoured by the Law Society in 1987 for service to the profession and the Society.
JEFFREY A. ROSE, QC was called to the bar in 1984 and articled with Ed Mortimer, QC. They formed the firm of Mortimer & Rose in 1989 where Jeff has practiced primarily in the area of domestic law. Jeff is a long time CLEBC supporter. He has been a frequent PLTC guest instructor as well as a presenter at a number of CLE courses. He has been involved with the Family Law Conference since its inception in 1995. Jeff is also a member of the CLEBC Practice Area Advisory Committee for Family Law.
JAMES A.W. SCHUMAN, QC is a well known senior member of the Vancouver family bar. He is a frequent contributor to and participant in CLEBC family law courses and materials and has been involved with the Family Law Conference since its inception in 1995. Jim’s volunteer activities include non-legal interests such as executive/committee involvement for the Richmond Curling Club, the Y.M.C.A., the Municipality of Richmond, and provincial, national, and international curling competitions.
