With over 7% of the world’s population and over 20% of the world’s GDP, the European Union stands as one of the most important political-economic entities on the planet. Comprising some 28 member states bound by a system of supranational institutions and intergovernmental agreements, the EU is a significant economic partner for Canada  generally, and British Columbia in particular.

This is the 1st session of a two-part CLE-TV series designed to bring corporate solicitors and corporate/commercial litigators quickly up to speed on what they need to know to serve clients dealing with entities operating under the EU umbrella.

The course focuses on:

Introduction to the EU

• history of the EU 
• key institutions
• key agreements

EU Business Part I

• legal method and sources
• constitutional foundation and fundamental principles
• economic freedoms
• intellectual property law
• dispute resolution

The second session in the European Union Law Series EU Business Part II will be held the following Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 1.5 hours. This course will NOT involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management.

About the Presenter
 Euan F. Sinclair is the Knowledge Management Director for Lawson Lundell LLP, Vancouver. In this role, he is responsible for capturing, disseminating, and maintaining precedents, practice guides, and other knowledge resources, and optimizing the firm-wide knowledge management system. Euan works collaboratively with each practice group to leverage existing knowledge resources, to get more out of technology tools, and to make knowledge sharing and effective use of technology part of their daily process. He coordinates client-facing business development initiatives, and designs and implements the KM Strategy.

Euan’s practice centres on the intersection between law, business, and technology. Before joining Lawson Lundell, Euan practiced law in Scotland for fifteen years. He was called to the BC bar in 2014, and is also admitted to the bars of England, Scotland, and Wales. Euan currently serves on the executive committee of the CBA (BC) Business Law section.
