Freemen on the Land (FOTL) are part of an emerging group of organized vexatious litigants who seek to engage the legal system while, at the same time, challenging its authority and practices. The existence of FOTL, also know as Organized Pseudolegal Commercial Argument (OPCA) Litigants as they were noted by Rooke J. in Meads v. Meads (2012 ABQB 571), poses a significant challenge to, and clog on, the administration of justice.
This is the 2nd session of a two-part CLE-TV series aimed at bringing notaries, lawyers, government staff, and private sector staff quickly up to speed on how to prevent and manage OPCA litigation problems. The course focuses on:
- what to do when you receive documents from an OPCA litigant
- having a response plan in place
- what to do to shut down OPCA litigation
- court authorities, techniques, and best practices
The 1st session in the series is The FOTL/OPCA Phenomenon.
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 1 hour (a minimum of 1 hour will include aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
