Please note: This course will not be added to Courses on Demand. Courses involving professional speakers and skills-based workshops generally do not get added to Courses on Demand.

Who should attend: Lawyers with one to three years' experience and articling students who have completed a portion of their articles. This may also be of interest to more experienced who are interested in developing community and accessing group coaching and mentorship. Best efforts will be made to place registrants of similar experience together, but will depend on the total number of registrations.

Learning level: Fundamental

Lawyers in their initial years of practice often do not get the support and guidance needed, resulting in the premature departure of many talented people from a career in law, not to mention the pervasive mental health challenges that the legal profession faces.

We designed this program to help you build a solid foundation for a rewarding and sustainable legal career through a fully integrated one-year curriculum that combines monthly educational programs with small-group coaching and one-on-one mentorship.

You will work with a designated coach, mentor, and small group of lawyers for 12 months to foster community learning, networking, and support. With a commitment of 2 to 3 hours each month, you will:

create your own plan for success
develop skills for an effective practice
learn strategies for navigating difficult situations
set yourself up for success in the long term

AMP is delivered entirely online through Zoom, enabling you to participate from anywhere. You will have access to recordings of the educational programs in case you miss one or want to go back and review.

By becoming an AMP member for the year, you can meet all your CPD requirements for 2024 and 2025, including your ethics and practice management credits. (Note: This is based on the CPD requirements and rules set by the Law Society of BC. We can assist with claiming credit in other jurisdictions.)

Allison Wolf — Founder and Lead Coach, The Lawyer Coach, Vancouver

As a coach with over 19 years of experience, Allison's particular strengths are business development; practice management; and careers at all levels of seniority. Having worked with a wide group of clients from every area of practice, she has developed a deep understanding of the national and international legal marketplace that informs her work with her clients.

In addition to her coaching practice, she has over 20 years of experience as an in-house legal marketing and business development professional for law firms of all sizes and scope. She began with the Beijing, New York, and Washington D.C. offices of an international law firm, followed by a national Canadian firm and two large regional firms. Allison is a recognized expert in legal marketing and business development, frequently asked to write for US and Canadian legal journals, and present to professional associations and private law firms.

Allison is a Professional Certified Coach and member of the International Coaching Federation; a former board member with West Coast LEAF; a former president of both the LMA Vancouver Chapter, and the non-profit Pacifica Family Addictions Foundation. She has a BA from McGill University and has conducted graduate studies in Communications and East Asian Studies at McGill University and the Beijing Film Academy. She received her Executive Coaching Certification (CEC) from Royal Roads University in 2004. The program is accredited by the International Coaching Federation which is the official international governing body of the profession. She is also a 2014 graduate of the Martha Beck Life Coach Training program.

Paula J. Price, LLB, BCL, PCC — Certified Executive Coach, Uplevel Lawyer Coaching, Vancouver

Paula Price is a professional certified coach and former litigator. She works exclusively with lawyers to help them create greater career satisfaction, whether that means developing skills to thrive in the job they're in or making a career transition. Paula provides lawyers with structure, support and tools to better align their professional and personal goals, establish greater control over their work, and overcome challenges common to lawyers. Paula helps lawyers with career goals like strategic planning, time and practice management, business development, job transitions and leadership, as well as related personal goals like building self-confidence, managing procrastination and perfectionism and overcoming self-doubt.

Paula regularly speaks and presents workshops, virtually and in person, for lawyers and law students. She currently runs a group coaching and mastermind program for women lawyers and she has previously offered group training to law students making the transition from law school to law firm. She has presented for law firms, CLEBC, CBA (Women Lawyers Forum, Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers and Young Lawyers subsections), the Peter A. Allard School of Law, the Office of the Judge Advocate General, the National Association of Legal Placement (NALP Annual Education Conference), Stewart Title Guarantee Company, and Global Lawyers of Canada. Paula also produces a weekly podcast tailored for lawyers in practice, The Joyful Practice for Women Lawyers, where she shares resources, strategies and interviews to help lawyers achieve both professional excellence and personal satisfaction.

Paula is a Professional Certified Coach licensed with the International Coaching Federation, having earned a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University in 2017. Paula earned her LLB/BCL from McGill University in 2003 and was called to the Ontraio bar in 2004 and the BC bar in 2005. She practiced in areas of civil litigation and legal research in the Vancouver office of a national law firm for 12 years before starting her coaching practice in 2018.
