  • Wills, Estates and Succession Act in force on March 31, 2014 (as amended on April 9 by the Justice Statutes Amendment Act, 2014), affecting several chapters
  • significant revision of the treatment of trust assets under the Family Law Act
  • pending end of preferential tax treatment for testamentary trusts as compared to inter vivos trusts, with exceptions
  • introduction of new non-resident trust rules affecting taxation of non-resident trusts; elimination of immigration trust exemption
  • changes to how donations under a will, RRSP, RRIF, TFSA, or life insurance designation will be treated by the CRA
  • cancellation of Interpretation Bulletins (“ITs”) system, replaced where appropriate by Tax Folios
