Every two years, CLEBC honours extraordinary individuals for their contribution to the enhancement of learning in the BC legal community with the Leaders in Learning Award. On June 16, 2022, CLEBC Board Member Mary-Jane Wilson presented this year’s recipient, Frank A.V. Falzon, KC, with the award at the 2022 Bench and Bar Dinner. Frank was joined at the event by his family: Leslie, his spouse, and Nick, his son.

Frank has demonstrated incredible commitment to mentorship, role modeling, and delivering learning opportunities to lawyers throughout his career. He is a leading force in the development of administrative law jurisprudence in BC and Canada and has devoted countless hours to both CLEBC programs and publications, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring the administrative law bar has the most up-to-date and relevant information. Frank has not only chaired the CLEBC Administrative Law Conference for the last 17 years but is a founding Editorial Board member of  CLEBC’s Administrative Law Practice Manual and a contributing author to two chapters since 2012. Unsurprisingly, this dedicated, generous, and brilliant lawyer is included in CLEBC’s list of most prolific contributors, with over 40 contributions. CLEBC will greatly miss Frank in these roles as he retired last year, but we express deep thanks for his contributions and look forward to whatever projects this extraordinary leader in learning next embarks upon.

In his acceptance speech, Frank generously expressed the following kind words about CLEBC: “One of the things for which I have been most thankful in my professional life has been my association with the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.”

It is with great pleasure that CLEBC presents the 2021 Leaders in Learning Award to Frank A.V. Falzon, KC.
