MID-DECEMBER MARKS THE 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION (TRC) OF CANADA’S FINAL REPORT, entitled Honouring the Truth, Reconciling for the Future.

His Honour the late Murray Sinclair, Mazina Giizhik-iban (1951-2024), the Chair of the TRC, led the presentation of the multi-volume report a decade ago. While a summary had been released in June 2015, the full report marking the culmination of the TRC’s work, featuring 94 Calls to Action for reconciliation and establishing the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), bezhig miigwan, was unveiled in Ottawa in December 2015.

The NCTR has released its 10-year report Shaped by courage, Strengthened by hope, with the following written on its website:

As the legacy and permanent repository of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC), the NCTR continues the work, carrying forward the sacred responsibility that began with Survivors’ testimonies: ensuring their truths are never silent, their histories never lost, and their courage never forgotten.

Throughout December, the NCTR will share its Ten-Year Report through a series of reflections, including Pimaatisin Gaagii Ishi Minigoosiwin, a national wellness and healing gathering where we will honour Survivors and resolution health support workers, and mark the 10th anniversary of the TRC’s Final Report.

As well, the NCTR invites First Nations, Inuit, and Métis artists to submit proposals by January 16, 2026 for artwork to be used for donor gifts to its new permanent home at the University of Manitoba.
