CLEBC is proud to be a sponsor of Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch’s 2019 Law Week.

First started in 1983 by the Canadian Bar Association, Law Week is an annual national event that celebrates the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Each April, hundreds of lawyers donate thousands of hours of time to Law Week projects across the country, with a goal to improve access to justice through public understanding of the law and legal system.

This year, Law Week in BC will feature activities held in various communities in our province including:

  • courthouse tours, judges talks, and mock trials (including a Harry Potter mock trial)
  • free public legal education classes on topics such as Truth and Reconciliation
  • a province-wide public speaking competition on the topic “should protesting ever be considered criminal?” for BC students in Grades 10, 11, and 12
  • the always popular Dial-A-Lawyer Day (April 13, 2019) on which everyone in BC is invited to speak with a lawyer for free for up to 15 minutes

CLEBC is delighted to sponsor Law Week and to support BC’s legal profession in educating the public about the law and the role of legal professionals in guaranteeing an open, independent, and unbiased judicial system.
