Author: James D. Baird, Kirsten E.H. Wharton, Jeremy Wong, and Michael Beishuizen
Current to: November 2021

As part of CLEBC Online Course Materials, we’re proud to present your latest Practice Point paper: “Lessons from the Future: The Basics of Probate and Estate Administration.”

The paper was originally prepared for CLEBC’s course Basics of Wills and Estate Planning 2021 by authors Kirsten E.H. Wharton, Jeremy Wong, and Michael Beishuizen (all of Westcoast Wills & Estates), plus James D. Baird (of Boughton Law Corporation).

The purpose of this paper is to provide a general overview of the main steps involved in the estate administration process and a standard representation grant application. It is also prepared with an eye to identifying particular issues that arise during this process that tie back into drafting considerations when preparing wills.

It’s critical that the estate planning lawyer be familiar with the estate administration process.  And thanks to this paper, you will be able to provide your clients with both complete information and practical advice.
